About Us

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

We're so glad you have visited our website today. Westwood is a Pentecostal church affiliated with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and a member of the Cornerstone Conference. Just having celebrated our centennial, our desire is to be a blessing to our local community and surrounding areas. We hold to the truth of the entire scripture and recognize the infallibility of the Bible. We believe in the doctrine of the Holy Trinity, Salvation through Christ alone, sanctification as a definite second work of grace continuing throughout the life of the believer, and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit and the baptism in the Holy Spirit empowering every believer with gifts for the edifying of the Church and to do ministry. We believe in the rapture of the Church, the Second Coming of Christ and the ultimate judgement of the wicked and righteous. We believe the Great Commission is the responsibility of the Church according to Matthew 28.  For more details visit https://iphc.org/.

Our Story

The church was organized by 1923, and the first pastor was Rev. Tom Howard. The church was originally called North Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.  The first building used as a place of worship was on Hughes Street in Henderson, NC and became known as the "cotton patch" church. In 1933 the Baptist Church on Lowry Street was purchased for $800.00.  Twenty-Six years later a new church was built on Burr Street. The first service held there was on November 22,1959. As the community dynamics changed and safety began to be an issue, and the church considered building a new church. A building fund was started on June 3, 1990. After selling the Burr Street location the church moved into what was called the "storefront" church. It was there the church was renamed Westwood PH Church on December 29, 1997. A new location with 14.68 acres would be the new home at 621 US 158 Bypass. The first service was held on August 9, 1998. The church was dedicated by the Rev. Tommy McGhee in October 4, 1998. God provided $783,000.00 through many people who believed in the vision. The vision is still before us over one-hundred years later.
